Dr. Pandora Ng
As an experienced family counselor, Dr. Ng obtained her Doctorate Degree from The University of Hong Kong for her specialty in psycho-oncology. She has a strong passion for working with children and families. She is a Certified Play Therapist and Parent Coach. She conducts play therapy with children in different schools, social service organizations as well as psychotherapy and counseling for parents, families, and individuals. Besides her clinical work, Dr. Ng also educates the community, general public and organizations on holistic health and healthy emotional well being. She is also one of the few clinical supervisors for play therapists in Hong Kong.
Education
Dr Pandora Ng obtained her Bachelor of Social Sciences degree in Psychology in 1989 from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She graduated with distinctions for both her Master Degree in Behavioral Health from the University of Hong Kong and Postgraduate Diploma in Practice Based Play Therapy from the Canterbury Christ Church University (UK). The focus of her Master degree study was on Body-Mind-Spiritual intervention on health counseling, dance and movement therapy, art therapy, play therapy and grief counseling.
After years of experiences working with families facing illnesses, bereavements and losses, Dr. Ng further completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Social Sciences from The University of Hong Kong. The research of her dissertation was on meaning making intervention for cancer patients and their families at palliative care. Dr Ng has also completed different specialized training such as soma psychology, calligraphy therapy, crisis interventions, mental health first aid, brief solution focused therapy, family assessments for complex child care and creative clinical supervision for health care professionals.
Working Experiences
Dr Ng’s scope of work can be described as from cradle to grave. With over 25 years of counseling experience, Dr Ng has expertise in working with families and children facing challenges such as behavioral and emotional issues, transitions, learning difficulties, mental health issues and relational conflicts. Dr Ng has always been passionate working with children. She advocates the importance of supporting healthy emotional and social development at early childhood. Besides working with children, her expertize is also on working with clients facing illnesses, losses, grief and death. She was highly involved in projects and researches on areas such as life and death education, end-of-life care, losses and grief, post earthquake capacity building, expressive arts and holistic therapy, psychosocial care for children with cancers and childhood cancer survivors. Dr Ng taught as a Teaching Consultant at the Centre on Behavioral Health and was an Honorary Lecturer at the Department of Social Work and Social Administration of The University of Hong Kong.
